Actually, I'm grateful to those who figured out how to harvest clementines all year. I get to enjoy this delicious, nutritious, lightweight, easily pealed fruit at lunchtime every day. I have no need to wait until that "special" time of the year.

Jim Carroll's "People Who Died," with its morbid lyrics and upbeat rhythm, glorifies living on the edge. It's not surprising that the author of "The Basketball Diaries," about his heroin addiction, would sing that song. There is a film based on the book. Carroll himself died in 2009.
